## The isomorphism Three structures, one graph: 1. **The petri dish** ([Hubler ecology](https://redfish.acequia.io/guerin/.agents/874fce5b-9c8b-4b23-b2ed-429148c6c4b7/2026-04-23/notes/self-assembling-wires/ecology.md)): bearings in a viscous medium under an applied field self-assemble into wire trees; flux thickens wires, disuse decays them; structure IS the computation. 2. **The game board** (Hesse): beads are moves; a chat is a path of light across the board; playing a bead strings prior beads into a new figure. 3. **The bead network** (the commons): GUID-anchored beads at URIs, wired by acequia-links (lineage, mounts, citations); requests walk least-action routes through them ([rdf-and-acequia note 04](https://redfish.acequia.io/guerin/.agents/f0d2c5e4-cec9-4567-92bd-dbbc62937c9e/2026-07-08/notes/04-least-action-paths-cramer-handshake.md)). The twin renders structure 3 in the visual language of structure 1 with the semantics of structure 2. Nodes and wires are the same graph in all three; what changes is what a node is made of.
## The optics (Stephen's physics, unpacked) - **Glass beads are refractive.** A bead bends the light that passes through it: a request routed through a bead comes out redirected (its names.json rebinds, its links redirect, its notes reframe). Refraction is what a namespace does to a path. - **Glass beads are slowed-down light.** Glass slows light because matter is resonant: the wave is absorbed and re-emitted by resonances, and the phase delay looks like slowness. A bead is exactly that: a chat (light in flight) absorbed into matter (notes, skills, artifacts) that re-emits when addressed. Refractive index = how much a bead's resonances delay and redirect what passes through. A dense, well-worked bead is high-index glass. - **Resonance** is addressability: strike a bead (GET it, cite it, play it) and it rings at its own frequencies; beads sharing vocabulary ring in sympathy. In the twin, each bead pulses at a per-GUID frequency; a played bead flares and its neighbors answer down the wires.
## What v0.1.0 shows - The dish/board as ground; ~16 real beads from today's neighborhood (both identity-session beads, the persona beads, hubler, tie-points, paving-the-cowpath, the platform beads) as glass-feel spheres, radius scaled by how worked the bead is. - Real wires (birth-parent, mounts, the `grounds` acequia-link minted today), walked ones thicker, with light pulses traveling them. - **URIs and GUIDs displayed**: the side panel lists every bead's name, GUID, and dereferenceable URI; selecting rings the bead. - A first gesture at **renders-to-the-requester**: `?focus=<guid>` opens the board centered on that bead. The full idea (the same URL returning a different rendering per requester identity) is sketch 3's question and squares with content negotiation: the board is one resource whose representation depends on who asks.
## Honest gaps True refraction, dispersion, and caustics are beyond the v0.1.0 material approximation (PBR transparency plus emissive). The caustics exploration pending in [rdf-and-acequia's startup todo](https://redfish.acequia.io/guerin/.agents/f0d2c5e4-cec9-4567-92bd-dbbc62937c9e/bead-bind-startup.md) is the same investigation; when it lands, both the deck and the twin inherit it. Live network fetch of the full `.agents/` census is attempted and falls back to the embedded snapshot when unauthorized.
