## Domains and origins are property A domain or origin is **intellectual property**, regulated by ICANN, registrars, and DNS authorities. When a domain hosts geospatial data it becomes a **parcel** in a larger watershed of attention. The tiles it holds are coordinates in a physical landscape with real governance underneath (acequias, water rights, land grants, as in northern New Mexico). So a URI is simultaneously a location in semantic address space and a location on the ground, carrying the obligations and entitlements of shared management. "The coordinate of attention becomes a coordinate of responsibility."
## The bundle of property rights The classic bundle, mapped onto the network: rights of **access, use, exclude, modify, transfer**, and, added by Stephen, **rights of way**, which are the **corridors through the matrix** ([07](07-forman-matrix-corridors-patches.md)). Data, computation, and all **six resources** ([05](05-six-resources.md)) can be governed or controlled by that land/parcel.
## Sparsity as legible governance The sparse partial pyramid a device holds is a **record of attention flows**: deep tiles where people looked closely, shallow where they glanced. That distribution is a signature of **use rights**, who is entitled to look closely at the headquarters, who may see overviews of the whole ranch. Sparsity becomes legible governance.
## Capitalism -> landism -> laborism Economics has land, labor, capital. Right now capital dominates. Stephen's framing: name the extremes. - **Capitalism (extreme)** = capital's dictatorship. The doctrine of shareholder primacy / fiduciary duty to maximize shareholder profit (Stephen cites a Supreme-Court-era ruling; the canonical reference is *Dodge v. Ford*, 1919, and the 1970s Friedman doctrine). The corporation as a vehicle for capital accumulation above all. - **Landism (extreme)** = place's dictatorship. The land's claims override labor, mobility, everything; you cannot leave or innovate away from the soil. Data locked in place, innovation strangled. - **Laborism (extreme)** = labor's dictatorship. Worker control over everything; capital and land subordinated. Its anthropocentric form is extraction/humanism: the forest exists to serve human labor, its services are ours to use, it has no rights of its own. No canonical economist has formally named "landism" as a counter-frame, though the roots exist: **Henry George** (land value tax), the commons literature (**Elinor Ostrom**), and the acequia governance Stephen lives in.
## The acequia holds all three in agonistic balance The acequia sits in **none** of the extremes. Land is sovereign (you cannot divert more water than the watershed yields), labor is sovereign (parciantes have voice and vote, not only shareholders), capital is sovereign (water rights are property, tradeable, but only within the commons' constraints). No extreme wins because they are locked in **reciprocal constraint**, agonistic but not antagonistic, legitimate competition within shared governance. Read as roles rather than ideologies: land = the watershed, labor = the parciante maintaining ditches and deciding, capital = the water right (the formal claim). What is radical is refusing to let any one colonize the others. Design consequence for livetil.es: the question is not "which ideology" but "what legitimate tensions do you hold in dynamic balance, where each force has real power but none has veto?" Tip too far toward landism and data locks in place; toward laborism and workers accumulate authority they cannot sustain; toward capitalism and capital escapes and the system hollows out. In this frame Tian's phone is a **parciante device** holding a share of the commons' burden and right, its compute/cache/channels **labor in service to the land**, not capital seeking return. The land (the place the ortho maps) is the title.
