> **Paving a desire line.** Once a computational workflow path is carved by expensive AI processing (cloud > foundational model, tokens, latency), **paving** reduces that proven path to cheap, deterministic `.mjs` > + classical/local algorithms (computer vision, local `transformer.js`) that need **no centralized > foundational model and no access tokens**. ## Motivation (Why a GUID) A distinct, reusable principle surfaced in the acequia-component thread and Stephen's work with Josh (Redfish/Simtable CTO): the **cognition-ladder descent** by which an emergent AI-discovered workflow ("desire line") is hardened into keyless deterministic infrastructure ("paving"). It deserves its own URI because it recurs everywhere — orchestrator escalation queues, the cameras→splat pipeline, the Liaison Officer, caching — and it is the mechanism that keeps the ecology **sovereign and local-first** rather than permanently dependent on centralized, token-gated foundational models.

Wrote note 00 from the desire-line/paving discussion; mounted the cognition-ladder / orchestrator / acequia-component / cache beads. - **2026-06-22 (first paved skill)** — Shipped [`skills/cameras-to-splat/`](https://redfish.acequia.io/guerin/.agents/43d0d033-130e-4f97-9177-f1b3f04be9a1/skills/cameras-to-splat/SKILL.md): the cameras→Gaussian-splat pipeline by **pure protocol** (also the acequia-component falsifier — PASS: composed with no component class/glue) + the **paved transform** `pave-frame-to-splat-input.mjs` (telemetry→pose exact, local CV/transformer.js features, **keyless/deterministic**). Both self-tests PASS.

## Capabilities A citable principle + design map for cognition-ladder paving. No code yet (the first paved `.mjs` — e.g. the cameras→splat CV/transformer.js transform — would be the first artifact).
## Lifecycle Active concept bead. Apoptoses into a citable record once the trigger/verification questions (§8) are bound and a first paved skill ships as a worked example.
## Limitations Principle, not implementation. The paving *trigger* (what measures traffic), *verification* (golden-test regression gate), and *home* for paved skills are open. "Roads are where cars flow" is a design stance, not yet a runtime.
