Per video: bounded window, day(s) pulled, and the recovered camera-ship track (or not-recovered + reason). All times UTC. Fleet table = note 01. Method = note 00. Track sidecars under `../artifacts/adsb-<event>/`. > **Framing.** "Recovered" means: a news-operator camera ship (Helinet / Tiny Bubbles / Helicopters Inc) was orbiting the fire inside the bounded window with a multi-hundred-to-thousand-point track that serves as the camera-position prior. Because stations **rotate airframes** and most feeds carry no on-screen tail, the *exact* ship a given outlet aired is a time+orbit match, not a certainty. The strongest, most defensible candidate is named; alternates are listed.
## 1. ABC News chopper over LA wildfires — `Y38j6fISIPE` (ABC10/ABC News, Palisades) - **yt-dlp:** `was_live`, `release_timestamp` 2025-01-08 **19:24:05Z**, duration 428s, channel "ABC 10 News". (Re-clip of an ABC News live feed; the 7-min duration ≠ the live broadcast length, so the underlying flight may extend before/after, and the YouTube `upload_date` can lead the capture by a timezone.) - **Pulled:** Jan 8 Palisades 14:00–24:00Z; Jan 9 Palisades 16:00–24:00Z (the richer day). - **RECOVERED → `N828AP` (Helinet AS350, ICAO `ab4ea1`)** — the Helinet ABC aerial-cinematography ship. - **Jan 9** (`artifacts/adsb-palisades-jan9/adsb-ab4ea1.json`): **5,118 trace points**, orbiting **16:42–22:06Z**, e.g. 19:09:52Z @ 34.0295,-118.4933, **3,800 ft**, heading 116° — directly over Pacific Palisades, looking inland at the fire. This is the definitive ABC camera-position prior. - **Jan 8** (`adsb-palisades-jan8/adsb-ab4ea1.json`): 1,127 pts, 20:37–23:59Z, 6,600–7,900 ft. - **Evidence:** operator Helinet (THE ABC7/ABC-News ENG operator); AS350 light turbine; sustained fire-relative orbit; squawks 0203/0226/0246/0271 (LAX TRACON discrete, not fire 1255). Same airframe firewatch-camera-grid note 08 identified as the FR24-blanked ABC camera ship. - **Alternate same-window news ships** (any could be the aired feed): `N925TV` Sky5/Tiny-Bubbles, `N358TV` NBC4, `N39CL` FOX/Helicopters-Inc (Jan 9), `N50Q` Helicopters-Inc pool. - **Caveat:** on Jan 8 N828AP's track starts 20:37Z (after the 19:24Z release time), so the footage is more consistent with **Jan 9** capture (or a Jan-8 pre-20:37Z segment below the feeder horizon). Either way the recovered prior is N828AP's Palisades orbit.
## 2. CBS — new Creek Fire in L.A. County — `oosijR4nnVg` (CBS News, SkyCal) - **yt-dlp:** `not_live`, `timestamp` (publish) 2025-01-10 **00:29:53Z**, duration 246s. Publish time = upper bound; the Creek Fire (Sylmar/Kagel Canyon) was most active Jan 7–9, so capture is likely Jan 8–9 daytime, re-uploaded the night of Jan 9/10. - **Pulled:** Jan 10 Creek/Sylmar 00:00–06:00Z (the upload-adjacent window). - **RECOVERED (news pool over the Creek Fire) → best candidate `N358TV` (Tiny Bubbles AS350, ICAO `a40442`)**, with `N925TV` (Sky5), `N828AP` (Helinet/ABC), `N50Q` (Helicopters Inc) all orbiting Sylmar in-window. - `adsb-creek-jan10/adsb-a40442.json`: **1,242 pts**, 01:12–04:08Z, e.g. 03:05:49Z @ 34.2105,-118.4821, **1,400 ft** over Sun Valley/Sylmar. - **CBS-specific note:** CBS2/KCAL "SkyCal" flies **Helinet N29HD** (`a2f3d4`) — which appears strongly on **Jan 8** (2,064 pts) but NOT in this Jan-10 00–06Z window, consistent with the CBS clip being **shot Jan 8–9** and re-posted Jan 10. So the *exact* SkyCal airframe for this clip is most likely **N29HD on Jan 8** (`adsb-palisades-jan8/adsb-a2f3d4.json`), while the Jan-10 Sylmar orbits above are the contemporaneous news-pool prior. Marked **recovered (pool) / SkyCal-airframe-inferred**.
## 3. KTLA Sky5 — Palisades Fire — `dcHd7NwrGEs` (KTLA 5) - **yt-dlp:** `was_live`, `release_timestamp` 2025-01-07 **20:10:41Z** → +17,165s ends 2025-01-08 **00:56:46Z** (4h47m live stream). Primary day = Jan 7 evening; tail spills into Jan 8. - **Pulled:** Jan 7 Palisades 19:00–23:59Z; Jan 8 Palisades 00:00–24:00Z. - **RECOVERED → `N925TV` (Tiny Bubbles AS350, ICAO `acd27a`)** — the Sky5 airframe. - `adsb-palisades-jan8/adsb-acd27a.json`: **1,005 pts**, 20:04–23:59Z, e.g. 23:19:20Z @ 34.1202,-118.5765, **7,575 ft** over the Palisades/Topanga ridge. (Sky5 = whichever Tiny Bubbles ship is up; N925TV is the Tiny Bubbles ship present.) - **Caveat on the Jan-7 primary window:** the Jan 7 19:00–23:59Z coastal Palisades pull found **NO news helis** in-bbox (`adsb-palisades-jan7/summary.json`) — only initial-attack firefighting (LAFD A139s, LA County B412s, **Canadian CL-415 SuperScoopers** C-GQBG/C-GQBE, S-2 tankers). Early in the fire the news ships were either outside the coastal box (operating further inland/east) or below the feeder horizon; they show up densely starting Jan 8. So the Sky5 prior comes from the **Jan-8 portion** of the same stream (00:00–00:56Z overlap + the continued daytime coverage). Marked **recovered (Jan-8 segment)**.
## 4. Hughes Fire near Castaic Lake — raw helicopter — `WVgyoPI7uGI` (ABC10) - **yt-dlp:** `not_live`, `timestamp` (publish) 2025-01-23 **02:04:43Z**, duration 932s, "raw helicopter video". Hughes Fire ignited ~Jan 22 18:30Z (10:30 PST). Publish 02:04Z Jan 23 ≈ same-evening upload of late-afternoon/evening Jan-22 footage. - **Pulled:** Jan 23 Castaic 00:00–05:00Z (= Jan 22 16:00–21:00 PST + into Jan 23). - **RECOVERED → `N71HD` (Helinet AS350 / **AIR7 ABC7**, ICAO `a97a67`)** — best fit for an ABC10 "raw" feed. - `adsb-hughes-jan23/adsb-a97a67.json`: **1,958 pts**, 00:45–02:06Z, e.g. 01:30:15Z @ 34.4623,-118.5719, **8,275 ft** over Castaic Lake — track ends 02:06Z, ≈ the 02:04Z publish. - **Also orbiting Castaic in-window** (alternates / news pool): `N828AP` (Helinet, 889 pts, 9,000 ft), `N925TV` (Sky5), `N358TV` (NBC4), `N50Q` (Helicopters Inc). Heavy National-Guard **C-130 MAFFS** tanker presence (92-0553 etc.) + CAL FIRE H60s + Neptune/Aero-Flite tankers also recovered. Strongest single ABC candidate = N71HD by operator + the track-end ≈ publish-time coincidence.
## 5. "Battling the L.A. Fires by Helicopter" — `qf2M-BR1eUU` (Vertical Plus) - **yt-dlp:** `not_live`, `timestamp` (publish) 2025-02-11 **14:01:05Z**, duration 208s, channel "Vertical Plus" (an aviation outlet). This is a **produced retrospective package** published ~1 month after the fires; the publish time is unrelated to capture, and the subject is **firefighting helicopter operations** (not a news live feed). - **NOT RECOVERED to a single ship/day — reason: capture date indeterminate.** A produced piece about the Palisades helicopter firefight could draw footage from any of Jan 7–~16. Without an on-screen tail, timecode, or a narrower content cue, the capture window can't be bounded to one archive day, so no single ADS-B track can be claimed. - **Candidate set (the firefighting fleet, already recovered for the Palisades days):** Coulson/UC **CH-47 helitankers** (N42CU/N43CU/N49CU), **S-61/S-64** (Siller N3173U/N7095B), CAL-FIRE/USFS **S-2 / OV-10 / C-130** (N458DF, N429DF, N462DF…), **Neptune BAe-146** tankers (N471NA/N473NA/N474NA), **LAFD A139s** (N301–304FD), and the **CL-415 SuperScoopers** (C-GQBG/C-GQBE, Jan 7). These live in `adsb-palisades-jan7/8/9/` and are the candidate priors if/when a capture day is pinned. Marked **not recovered (indeterminate capture date); firefighting-fleet candidate priors supplied**.
