Stephen (verbatim, from the follow-ups form): *"make a note that we will be keeping track of nexus for washington state and other states. we already have nexus in california."*
## Standing intent Simtable will **track sales-tax nexus state by state**, not just transaction by transaction. Nexus status as understood today: | State | Status | Evidence | |---|---|---| | **New Mexico** | Home state (physical nexus) | Santa Fe HQ; NM Tax & Revenue payables throughout [owners.redfish.com/flow.csv](https://owners.redfish.com/flow.csv) | | **California** | **Nexus established** (per Stephen) | CDTFA payables in flow.csv (2024–2025: $3,899.03, $8,261.82, $1,649.18); County of San Mateo and State of California payable lines | | **Washington** | Watching — this bead's subject | This renewal is $89,950 against the $100k economic-nexus threshold; cumulative WA receipts (prior DNR contracts, the May 2023 `DNR Payable` $26,736.42) likely already cross it. If registered, B&O retailing tax also applies (seller-side). | | Other states | Untracked so far | No systematic ledger exists yet |
## Where tracking should live The **simtable-accounting bead** (`5f76451b`, off-commons at stephenguerin.live/simtable/admin/.agents/ — QBO-adjacent, Simtable-Admin only) is the natural ledger home; this bead deposited a request into its `uploads/` dock (off-commons, not web-served; local path `stephenguerin.live/simtable/admin/.agents/5f76451b-663e-46c1-a4d4-68ea284dc072/uploads/2026-07-06-from-24f1f1b2-wa-dnr-nexus-and-dnr-payable.md`) asking it to: 1. Reconcile the May 2023 `DNR Payable` $26,736.42 (never reversed). 2. Stand up a per-state nexus ledger (NM, CA, WA first; thresholds, registration status, filing cadence).
## Open questions - Does Simtable hold a WA DOR account already? (The `DNR Payable` hints a prior WA tax event was at least booked.) - Which other states have crossed or are approaching thresholds (economic nexus is typically $100k sales or 200 transactions, varies by state)? - Post-Wayfair SaaS taxability differs per state — CA notably does **not** tax SaaS, so CA nexus obligations may be B&O/income-flavored rather than sales-tax on subscriptions; worth a per-state taxability column in the ledger.
